Boys brave Benaud
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) An invitation XI. led by a former Australian captain, R. Benaud, beat the New Zealand secondary schools XI in a one-day match at Kensington. Sydney, this week. Benaud’s XI declared at eight for 224. and the New Zealand side scored 174 in reply. The invitation team, with seven former internationals, scored its 224 in 150 minutes, with three sixes and 17 fours. However, it started badlv when the young New Zealand left-hand pace bowler, R. Abbott, took three wickets. After the first hour’s play It was three down for 49. The highlight of the New Zealand innings was the hitting of a middle-order batsman. R. Wilson. He attacked Benaud. hitting him for six, to get his 50 in 73 minutes. However. Benaud clean bowled him in the next over.
