Deacon signs contract

The New Zealand second row forward, W. G. Deacon, has been appointed coach of the Wagga Magpies Rugby League Club. Deacon signed a two-year contract at the week-end. He takes over from another Kiwi international, D. Ellwood, who will continue to play with Magpies. Deacon, aged 27, has played 51 games for New Zealand, including 15 tests.

Speedway.—Britain went down to a 56-58 defeat in the fourth speedway test against Australia at Sydney. Two British riders, P. Collins and C. Pussey crashed and were injured in the last and deciding heat, Australia leads the series 3-1.
