Sarapu still unbeaten
I (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. New Zealand’s only internaitional chess master. O. Sarapu. maintained his unbeaten record when the national championships reached the half-way mark in Wellington yesterday. Sarapu's opponent. B. Deben, of Wellington, pressed the Aucklander for much of their livehour playing session. But just when the game was about to enter an interesting situation. Deb* n unaccountably lost a bishop and resigned immediately . The other New Zealand Olympic representative at the championships, P. Stuart (Auckland), was content to draw with A. Day (Auckland) and maintained his second placing on 4i points. R. Grigg (Wellington) continued to improve on his poor showing in the early round with ia 22-inove win against W. Brown (Wellington). The only upset in the fifth round was the surprise win by A. Pomeroy (Wellington.) over A. Fenerides on the fifteenth mote. Sixth round individual results I were:— Championship.—Chiu-Kelly, adijourned; Craig beat Brown: Deben lost to Sarapu; Day drew iwith Stuart; Garbett beat FeneI ridis; Pomeroy drew with Small Premier reserve.—Goodhall lost ito Hensman; Clark drew with Haase: Baren-Fletcher, adjourned; Lynn beat Hoskyn; Gibbons lost to Easterbrook-Smith; Maiarski lost to Free; Thomson lost to Roberts; Marsick beat Walker; Trundle beat Emslle; Minnis beat Skuja; Balme-Mills adjourned; Cornelissen beat RobI inson; Lindsay lost to Davida; Dwyer beat Ward; Voss-Kay adjourned; Mazur lost to Arbruthnott; Metge-Beutner, adjourned: •Vitkovitch lost to Chandler; Mitjchell drew with Richardson; C. Chiu beat Bennett; Woodford lost {to Taylor; Yee lost to Millard; 'Storey beat G. Adams; Whiticombe beat Keating: Watson beat Cater; Stinson lost to Burns: {Williams lost to Rolle; J. Adams post to Mears; Weir beat Payne.
