Inquiry into King’s Plate

(From Our Own Reporter) AUCKLAND. Nearly everyone expected that the King's Plate at Ellerslie yesterday would develop into a dead-set duel between Bardall and Kirrama. But in a race that produced more than its share of incidents, which will be dealt with at ay inquiry today, the front-running Kalgoorlie came out on top with a bit to spare by a length and a quarter from Mr Sovereign. Bardall and Kirrama came to the post almost in line with the runner-up. Kirrama’s prospects of finishing so close looked slight after he was checked alongside the rails about three furlongs out. He came back with some skin off and Bardall appeared to be sore. Kalgoorlie has now had 24 wins, one of which was in Sydney.
