“Go slow” openers

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The North Shore women’s cricket team must have gone close to setting a record during the Hallyburton Johnson cricket tournament at Lower Hutt yesterday. Against a moderate Wellington bowling attack, the North Shore openers. J. Douli and M. King, batted out 36 overs for 33 runs. It left North Shore evenly placed in its match, for earlier Wellington, chiefly through the efforts of P Hyman, had made 173. Hyman scored 42 and the consistenl B. Bevege 22 in Wellington’s comparatively bright innings. So dormant were the North Shore openers that the Wellington medium pacer. M. Dunlop, was allowed to fc-'wl 12 overs for only nine runs The other match, l -tween Canterbury. and Auckland was also pedestrian. Auckland, with L Powell and R McKenzie in form, made a good start but faded to be dismissed for 129. At stumps.
