Germans to see Chaplin
(N.Z.P A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, Dec. 21. Charlie Chaplin’s classic satire of the late 19305, “The Great Dictator” — in which he lampoons both Hitler and Mussolini — will finally be shown to cinema audiences in Germany and Italy early next year. The film is being re-re-leased elsewhere in the Western world as part of a drive to introduce a new generation to the major works of the British-born comedian, who is now 83. “We expect no trouble in Germany with the film. There is a new generation there who can look at the war and Germany’s social problems between the two World Wars more obiectively,” said Mr Robert Timms, managing director of the firm which distributes films for Mr Chaplin. “The Great Dictator.” made tn 1939, has rerentlv been shown successfully in New York, Paris and Stockholm.
