Bridge well used

(From Our Own Reporter'

GREYMOUTH, Dec. 21

A traffic counter on the new Sir Stanley Goosman bridge across the Taramakau River showed that in the week after its opening on December 2 it was used by an average of 113 vehicles a day. The Grey County Council engineer (Mr D. C. Forrest) said that when the council had first studied the economic justification of the bridge, it was estimated that the bridge would get a daily traffic count of about 30 cars. Mr Forrest said he believed that the average of 113 would remain over the holiday period and then drop to about 80 vehicles a day.
