Christchurch West retained its unbeaten record when, in a ’, very close encounter, it scored jthe only run of the game in the eighth innings to beat Monowai. , Spreydon, after leading early in its game against Western ’ Suburbs, was forced to stage a sixth-innings batting rally to reJ gain the lead and win, 9-7. SPREYDON v. WESTERN SUBURBS Spreydon began well when M. Hirama scored A. Caddie, and , scored herself on an overthrow at first base. Spreydon doubled its score through good batting by M. Williams, P. Nalopa, Caddie and Hirama. Western Suburbs’s G. Larsen eventually scored on a bunt by R. Pater- ; son and was followed home by IS. Carroll on an error. A good hit by B. Tilden enabled Sprevdon’s H. Thyne and M. Williams to score in its third. In reply, a sacrifice by Larsen and a hard drive by Carroll enabled two runners to score for Western Suburbs. Western Suburbs levelled the game in its I fourth turn at bat when A. Huri- , wai and Palermo took advantage of errors to score. In its fifth, Western Suburbs went into the lead for the first time when A. Coffey, after hit- : ting on and making third base, scored on a short-stop error. Western Suburbs’s lead was short-lived. Spreydon, in its sixth, with strong batting by ; M. Williams, Tilden, Caddie, and ‘ Hirama, scored three runs to regain the lead. Western Suburbs nearly scored in reply, but R. j Thomas was tagged at home I plate. Neither side scored in its I last, Spreydon winning, 9-7. H. MONOWAI • In a very tight game which produced softball of a high standad, Christchurch West, in the ’ eighth innings, clinched the game. With one batter out, P. | Chambers walked to first base, (advanced on a sacrifice bunt by I. R. Stinson, and scored when S. d Constable guided the ball just v over the short-stop’s head, and it 1 was not fielded cleanly in the g out-field.
