Wholesale turnover up 12.1 per cent

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 8. The value of wholesale turnover in surveyed businesses in the quarter ended

September 30 was $719.6m, up 12.1 per cent above that in the September quarter, 1971, said the Government Statistician (Mr J. P. Lewin). The value of wholesalers’ stocks for businesses covered by the survey at September 30 was $479.9m, which was 5.8 per cent higher than at September 30, 1971. The total value of stocks at September 30, 1972, when adjusted for seasonal fluctuations was 0.9 per cent below the value recorded at the end of June, 1972. On a similar basis, the value of stocks at June 30. 1972, had been 1.9 per cent higher than the value recorded at March 31, 1971. The survey covers businesses which are dominantly wholesale. Certain storetypes, which by the nature of their business have a low ratio of stock to total turnover, have been omitted to facilitate collection and compilation of data.
