Box 42, Churchill, Victoria, Australia, 3842 THE Gippsland Institute of Advanced Education, an autonomous tertiary institution affiliated with the Victoria Institute of Colleges, is a new multi-purpose regional college of advanced education established to serve the rapidly growing educational needs of eastern Victoria. Located 100 miles east of Melbourne on a large new site in rural surroundings at Churchill, the campus adjoins a complex of cities and towns and industrial enterprises in the Gippsland region. The Gippsland Institute is the only tertiary institution in eastern Victoria, and currently offers diploma courses in Engineering, Applied Chemistry, Art and Design, Business Studies and General Studies. The introduction of new programmes, including teacher education, are currently under consideration and degree programmes are being developed. Applications are invited for the following position in the School of Business and General Studies: LECTURER IN PSYCHOLOGY The Institute is seeking a person who wilt contribute to the current Diploma of General Studies programmes (including external studies), and who could help in the development of degree programmes. Preference will be given to an applicant with a primary interest in Developmental Psychology. THE FACULTY OF ARTS LECTURING FELLOW IN LINGUISTICS Applicants should have a sound knowledge of modem linguistic theory (transformational grammar) and should be able to teach in at least two, and preferably three or four, of the following areas: syntax, semantic!, phonology, phonetics, historical/comparative lingustics, sociolinguistics. Experience of, or interest in doing, fieldwork in an Australian or Austronesian language would be an advantage, as would knowledge of a modem or classical Asian language. THE FACULTY OF SCIENCE DEMONSTRATOR IN BIOCHEMISTRY (MICROBIOLOGY) The appointee will be required to assist in the establishment of an undergraduate teaching programme in general Microbiology. Preference will be given to applicants with a good Honours degree in Microbiology and some biochemical training. The appointee will have an opportunity to join a research project on cellular differentiation in yeast and fungi. The appointee will be required to take up duty as early as possible in 1973. Salary on appointment will be in accordance with qualifications and experience within the ranges: lecturer $6804 x $369-$9387 per annum; senior tutor $5966 x $167$6634 per annum; demonstrator $4738 x $167-$5406 per annum, Australian currency. Academic salaries are at present under review. Lecturing Fellows are appointed for three years with possible extension to a maximum of five years. Superannuation is on the FSSU pattern with supplementary benefits. Tutors and demonstrators are appointed for twelve months in the first instance and may elect to participate in the University Superannuation Scheme. The University provides reasonable travel and removal expenses, and assistance with housing for an appointee from outside Canberra.
