DRY MONTH AT LINCOLN

November was a dry, warm month with above average temperatures and a particularly low rainfall, according to observations taken at Lincoln. The average temperature for the month was 14.8 degrees, the highest since 1954 and 1.5 degrees above average. Similarly, both the average maximum and average minimum temperatures last month . were higher than usual for . November, the average minimum being the highest since 1939. In spite of the high temperatures, sunshine was well below normal, only 164.8 hours being recorded, compared with the November average of 209.3 hours. Rainfall was well down, only 16.7 mm. being recorded, as against the usual 52mm., and most of that over the last five days of the month. The high temperatures after the abundant rain in October led to excellent growth of all crops and pastures, but extensive irrigation was required to prevent pastures drying out. Early peas in particular needed irrigation. Strawberries were picked throughout the month and were of good quality. Directdrilled tomatoes were assisted by the weather to get away to a good start.
