U.S. REFUSES ARAB OFFER

Egypt asked the United States for Phantom jet fighters in exchange for re-estab-lishment of diplomatic relations, according to the Egyptian _ Prime Minister (Mr Sidki), quoted by Agence France Presse. Cairo broke off relations with Washington after the six-day war in June, 1967.
“The United States was incapable of meeting our request,” Mr Sidki is said to have told a meeting of Egyptians living in Kuwait.
The Prime Minister, in Kuwait, on an official three-day visit, said that the United States said it would not exercise any pressure on Israel, but did not have any hostility towards Egypt Describing a Middle East war as “almost imminent,” Mr Sidki revealed that reequipping the Armed Forces over the last five years had cost £4ooom.
“If we say all this,” he said, “it is so that the whole world may know what Egypt and its people are bearing.”
