Racing car destroyed

(N.Z. Press Association) > AUCKLAND. The Ford Escort racing car in which the Auckland driver, R. Cook, is leading the Castro] GTX championship, was destroyed by fire near Taihape on the way back from a meeting at Levin at the week-end. The loss of the $6OOO car came almost exactly a year after a fire destroyed $13,000 worth of cars and Cook’s Takanini workshop. “We were only just getting back on our feet after the last fire, and this had to happen. It is a terrific blow and we will be out of the championship if we cannot get some help for another car,” he said. The Escort BD was being driven back from Levin by its owner, Mr E. Mclntyre, of Papakura.
