Rowing cup to Avon

Avon, with twice as many points as any other club, won the D.C.L. Cup rowing regatta on Kerr’s Reach at the week-end. Avon finished with 44 points, Canterbury 22, and Christ’s College did well to take third with 17. The other clubs were Tlmaru and Union (both 9), Cure (7), and Akaroa (0). In both heats on Saturday and in the finals yesterday there were some exciting finishes. Apart from the novice events, which were over 1500 metres, all events were over 2000 metres. Results:—

Two lengths and a half, half a length. Time: 7.03. Senior fours.—Canterbury 1, Avon 2, Union 3. Three-quarters of a length, distance. Time: 6.04:7. Youth eights.—College No. 1 1, College No. 22, Avon 3. Threequarters of a length, length. Time: 6.03:8. Junior fours.—Union 1, Avon No. 1 2, Avon No. 2 3. Threequarters of a length, two lengths. Time: 6.18:8. Novice eights.—Timaru 1, Avon 2, Cure 3. Half a length, distance. Time: 5.23. Maiden singles.—Canterbury 1, Avon 2, Union 3. One length and a half, four lengths. Time: 7.26.
