LYDIARD TO STAY

Full-time position (N.Z. Press association) AUCKLAND. The world famous athletics coach, Mr A. L. Lydiard, has accepted fulltime employment with Winstone, Ltd, as public relations officer. This will keep him in New Zealand and allow his expert knowledge in training and coaching methods to be fully used in this country. In conjunction "with the new post announced yesterday by an executive director of Winstone, Mr K. Jarvis, the Amateur Athletic Association appointed Mr Lydiard the national advisory middledistance to long-distance coach. Statements were released by Mr Jarvis and, on behalf of the N.Z.A.A.A. by Mr G. Davy, president of the Auckland association, which outlined Mr Lydiard’s capacity with both organisations.

Mr Jarvis said his firm had supported the local and national associations and athletics in general for three years. It thought Mr Lydiard would provide the company with good public relations as well as co-ordinating involvement in sport. It would be necessary for him to travel extensively throughout the country to assist with promotion and communications with the firm’s branches. This travel would enable him to make contact with, and allow scope for discussions with, athletics coaches, athletes and sporting bodies.
