Hastings named as captain
B. F. Hastings will captain the Canterbury representative cricket team this season. The Canterbury Cricket Association made this appointment this week. The Canterbury captain since 1962 has been G. T. Dowling, with the exception of two seasons. V. Pollard led the team in
1969.70, when Dowling was in Australia, and Hastings was the captain four yean before. Dowling was unavailable for Canterbury that season. No appointment of a vice-captain has yet been made and will probably not be until the team for the Plimket Shield series is named.
