Banking issues attract buyers in Australia

The banking sector provided most interest on Australian exchanges yesterday after good performances by the Bank of New South Wales and others. Mining issues were generally firm and oils slightly easier. The Bank of New South Wales rose 30c to 900 c in Sydney and C.8.C., the National and the Bank of Adelaide were all firmer, as was the C.B.A. Poseidon gained 20c as did Renison. Bougainville and C.R.A. were slightly firmer but Seicaste, M.1.M., and Consolidated Goldfields eased. Western Mining fell 13c after the announcement of its contract with Poseidon for the treatment of nickel from Windarra. Oils were mixed to easier. SYDNEY Sales,—Amal.
