City Council appoints community worker
Mr J. R. L. Fry, of Timaru, will be the Christchurch City Council’s first, full-time, salaried community worker.
Mr Fry, aged 51, married] with three children, has a j diploma in social science from) Victoria University and has] been a social worker since! 1947. Mr Fry’s salary will start at $5579 a year, with a maximum range of $6998. He was appointed at a special meeting of the City Council last evening after members of the welfare committee had considered applications for the post and unanimously recommended him. He was educated at Christ’s College and Victoria: University and his first job in the welfare field was as-1 sistant to the Port Chaplain at Auckland. He was in vari-j ous divisions of the Child Welfare Division for 11 years. In 1967, Mr Fry was appointed an Anglican social services worker in Timaru by the Christchurch diocese. It is not known exactly when he will begin work for the City Council. He informed
the council committee that he might give three months' I notice of terminating his Timaru work.
