Single-wicket cricket
Some prominent cricketing personalities will participate in a single-wicket tournament at Denton Park on Sunday afternoon. Sponsored by the Hornby Cricket Club, the tournament is part of the Hornby gala and cultural celebrations. Five former New Zealand representatives — P. G. Z. Harris, S. C. Guillen, B. G. Hadlee, R. C. Motz, and K. Thomson — will be joined by A. D. L. Fleete, I. Hoskin, N. Clark, R. Mills, C. Attridge, R. Steel, A. Ayers, G. D. Fampton, J. Fleming, and R. Wilson. Members of the Riccarton High School first XI will act as fieldsmen.
Soccer.—European Cup firstleg, second-round matches resulted: Derby County 3, Benfica (Portugal) 0; Celtic 2, Ujpest Dozsa (Hungary) 1.
Polo.—The 1973 national Savile Cup polo tournament will be held at Feilding from March 1218 next year, the New Zealand Polo Association has decided. A meeting of the association also adopted a recommendation that the management committee have the right to eliminate teams of low goal rating from the junior cup in the event of there not being sufficient accommodation or facilities for all entrants.
