GIFT TO MUSEUM
A gift of $lO,OOO to the Canterbury Museum has been promised by a Christchurch businessman, Mr R. H. Stewart, it was announced at the monthly meeting of the museum trust board yesterday. The board approved a recommendation by the Director (Dr R. S. Duff) that the contribution be noted by | the naming of the colonial; settlement hall after him. “Mr Stewart has expressed j a particular wish that his; contribution be acknow-; ledged in this hall with its C resent wide-ranging Canterury colonial exhibits and; where the completion of the new wing will enable us to make a start on the long-; term reconstruction of a Canterbury colonial village,” said Dr Duff. Mr R. H. Stillwell had. promised a “substantial I monetary donation” and a wide range of exhibits for a children’s museum which would be developed in two rooms next to the anniversary wing, said Dr Duff. The board approved a sign being placed acknowledging Mr; Stillwell’s help.
