U.N. report on incendiaries
(N.Z. P.A .-Reuter—Copyright) NEW YORK, Oct. 18. An international group of experts has urged the United Nations General Assembly to work out measures to prohibit the use, manufacture, and stock-piling of napalm and other incendiary weapons.
“Incendiary weapons are cruel weapons which cause great human suffering,” a report published today says. “Their use is often indiscriminate as regards their targets. Because of this, there is a need to consider measures for the clear-cut prohibition of incendiary weapons.” The 52-page study has been drawn up in compliance with a General Assembly resolution last year, dealing with respect for human rights in armed conflicts.
Among other things, it asks the Secretaiy-Geenral (Dr Kurt Waldheim) to prepare, with the help of experts, a report on napalm and other incendiary weapons, and all aspects of their possible use.
