C.B.H.S. bats well

Christchurch Boys’ High School was in a strong position after the first day of its annual fixture against Auckland Grammar in Christchurch yesterday.

Christchurch declared at 5 p.m. after making 229 for nine wickets on a placid pitch. The brothers, K. C. and M. McK. Burtt featured in a 71 run stand for the second wicket.

K. C. Burtt made 57, and M. McK. Burtt, 45. A. G. Broughton boosted the total and the match interest with a brisk undefeated 43. R. Seaboum struck an early blow for Christchurch Boys’ High when he took a wicket with the Auckland score at seven. Auckland was 34 for one at stumps.

Scores were: — C.B.H.S. 229/9 dec. (K. C. Burtt 57, M. McK. Burtt 45, Broughton 43 not out, S. P. Girvan 22, D. G- Ward 20; P. Dalton 4/43, J. Heale 2/55) v. Auckland Grammar 34/1.
