Places for women

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, Oct 2. History was made at Cambridge University today when three colleges opened their gates to more than 100 female students, the Press Association reported.

King’s College, 531 years old and one of the world’s leading colleges, has broken its single-sex tradition by admiting 44 girls—3s undergraduates and nine graduates. The decision to admit girls to King's was made three years ago. Cambridge’s second oldest college, Clare, founded in 1326, has admitted 38 girls and Churchill, founded in 1960, has admitted about 40 women.

Most of the girls at King’s have been allocated rooms in two college hostels, but some have been given rooms inside the college. They will be accorded no special privileges and no special regulations have been introduced about mutual visiting between men and women.
