Baked steak and bacon
I doubt very much if “the steak” will ever lose Number One Rating with the New Zealand man. When one becomes a little weary of steak “au naturelie” try this variation. It retains all the virtues with perhaps some additional ones.
For two persons you will need:—
2 sirloin, porterhouse or fillet steaks 2 rashers streaky bacon French mustard Olive oil Bacon Tomatoes
Method: Spread steaks with mustard and marinade in a little olive oil for about 30 minutes. Sprinkle lightly with pepper, and with sharp knife make incisions in each steak and in these insert strips of bacon. Place on greased shallow ovenproof dish and bake at 425-450 for 15 minutes. Dependent upon how “rare” the steak is preferred, place under grill for required time. Serve with mushrooms baked in a little butter.
