Road toll 520

WELLINGTON, Sept. 29To noon today, 520 traffic deaths had been reported this year to the Ministry of Transport. At the corresponding time last year, the total was 505. The national road toll this month was 46, compared with 37 at the corresponding time last September. For the first time in two successive weeks this year there have been no road deaths in the greater Christchurch area. A Ministry of Transport spokesman said yesterday that the figures were the same as last week: thirty-one fatalities this year, compared with 22 in the comparative period last year; and three during September, compared with three in the corresponding part of the month last year.
