Exams sought in Japanese
School pupils are not yet able to sit examinations for University Entrance and scholarships in Japanese although the language is a university subject, says the president of the Japanese Language Club (Mr M. Friedberg).
Mr Friedberg said the club was pleased that sixth-form certificates could be given for Japanese and that a School Certificate examination was being organised for next year. “But we feel that it will be a great injustice and a setback for Japanese language studies in our schools if nothing definite is done for setting a long-overdue University Entrance examination paper in 1973. A scholarship examination should also be offered,” he said.
