Government criticised

The Government seemed to regard education boards as something of a “back number,” the chairman of the Nelson Education Board (Mt B. C. Spiers) told the annual conference of the Education Boards’ Association in Christchurch yesterday.

“I am concerned that we were unable to have the Minister of Education present to open our conference and no other Government representative was sent in his place. Just what do they really think of us? It seems they treat us like a lot of little boys,” Mr Spiers said. For many years the association had tried to get a current Prime Minister to open their conference but had not been successful. “I greatly regret what has happened again this year and the political implications that it holds. There is a need for more recognition from the Government."
