"The Press'’ Special Service INVERCARGILL

The Southland sire. Tempest Hanover, an imported horse by Tar Heel from Terka Hanover, a sister to Bachelor Hanover, was represented by his first winner from his first runner when Courier beat the two-year-olds in the First Graduation Stakes at Alexandra Park last Saturday.

Tempest Hanover stands at C. T. Woodward’s Raven Lodge Stud. Edendale, and will be represented by his first full crop this season.

Courier, which beat the Maklkihi two-year-old. He’s Away, ran the mile in 2min 5 4-ssec, an outstanding early-season run, and 1 l-ssec outside the New Zealand record held by Berkleigh and Double Cash.

Courier was bred by the Puketutu Island Stud of Sir Henry Kelliher, where his dam, Beta, Is being bred from.

Beta was a Southland-bred mare whose first progeny to race was Raven's Land, the winner of several races in Queens land. An unraced Hal Tryax mare, Beta is out of Red Mantle, by Colossal from the Quite Sure mare, Beau Jument.
