It is hoped that the original Byrds will get back together within the next month to record at least one album. The reformed Byrds will be Roger McGuinn, David Crosby, Gene Clark and Chris Hillman.
The move to get the famous group back together has been made by David Geffen of Asylum records. If his attempts are successful the album could be released by the end of the year. There are no plans for a tour.
The Four Tops are expected to leave the Tam la Motown label and sign with Probe records. The group, which helped to make the Motown sound famous, has been associated with the label for the last 10 years. No reason has been given for the split. However, there is believed to have been some dissatisfaction within the label’s ranks. Another well known group, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, recently disbanded.
Flood relief for the victims of the floods in the eastern states of the United States earlier this year has come from a most unexpected source.
Three record labels (R.C.A., Columbia, Mercury) have arranged to send a supply of record covers to the affected areas for free distribution to
record buyers who request them. Many flood victims had seen their record cover sleeves destroyed and were concerned about the condition of their hi-fi equipment.
Three Dog Night has commenced its full scale world tour, which includes New Zealand. The group is in Britain this week for a minimum of three appearances. Visits to all major European capitals, the Far East, Japan and Australia are included in the group’s itinerary. It is expected that former Fleetwood Mac guitarist, Peter Green, will join Stone the Crows on a permanent basis. Green will replace former lead guitarist and cofounder of Stone the Crows, Les Harvey, who was electrocuted while appearing with the group earlier this year. (Entertainment Scene, September 21.) Green has been in "selfimposed retirement” since leaving Fleetwood Mac more than two years ago.
There are rumours that Bob Dylan may record an album with the Grateful Dead. Jerry Garcia, of the Grateful Dead, and Dylan are good friends, but neither will say if the rumours are true.
