Carpet yarn study

An international carpet yam study is being organised by the textile technology section of the Wool Research Organisation at Lincoln. Branches of the International Wool Secretariat have been asked to collect samples of yams which overseas manufacturers consider the best for specific end uses. The section head. Dr D. A. Ross, said the samples would be analysed to obtain information on the physical properties of the yam, such as bulk and strength, and on the type and quality of the various fibres making up the yam. By collecting this information it was hoped to establish the requirements for various carpet types. This would help recommendations on the best New Zealandrich wool blends for manufacturers.
