New strain of leptospirosis

WELLINGTON, Sept. 20. Work on leptospirosis at the National Health Institute had isolated a fresh strain of the disease not hitherto observed in New Zealand, said the Minister of Health (Mr Adams-Schneider) and the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Carter) in a joint statement today. Research staff from both departments had examined work already done and agreed to a programme of investigations, the statement said.
The institute will continue working on diagnostic testing this year as well as studying ■ blood reactions to infection by various strains. and searching for different I strains.
