The Consortium Classicum (above) a wind sextet from Germany, will add variety to the Christchurch Chamber Music Society’s 1972 programme when it presents a concert in the Civic Theatre next Monday evening.
The Consortium Classicum is made up of two clarinettists, two horn players, and two bassoonists, a combination of instruments rarely presented in a chamber music concert.
These leading German musicians have performed together for many years, have given concerts throughout Europe, and have recorded many of their performances. Dieter Klocker (clarinet), who is the leader of die ensemble, has spent many years searching through libraries and archives to find the music that was written when wind instruments were at a high point of favour — the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. He has found many previously unknown works by Haydn and Mozart, and has built the repertoire of the group around these. But the consortium also includes many contemporary works in its programmes. The visit of the Consortium Classicum is sponsored by the Music Federation with the support of the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council.
