Landscape design exhibition
Members of the New Zealand Association of Landscape Designers, who are in Christchurch this week for their annual conference, opened yesterday an exhibition of examples of their work to the public.
Held in the Kauri suite of the Avon Motor Lodge, the exhibition comprises two scale models and many designs and photographs of various projects undertaken b. landscape designers from Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch, One of the scale models is of plans for the Wycola Park children’s playground, Hornby ,by Michael Littlewood and Associates. ’ It shows school-age and preschool age playgrounds,
which include a fort and stockade, teepees, slides on a hill, shelters, ponds, tyre swings, sand pits, swings, and Wendy houses. As an example of a total development concept, the Riverview Park subdivision in Christchurch is shown with its landscape design, suitable for open, living in a scheme designed as a contrast to the straight, oblong sections of the usual subdivision. To illustrate various aspects of landscape design there are photographs of the Lady Norwood rose garden in Wellington and the Lady McKenzie garden for the
blind in Auckland; civic centres of lawn triangles and sunken gardens; street landscaping, including the Cuba Mall; and landscaping for commercial buildings and private homes. A design by a landscape artist for the Aranui High School, which includes an ecological area, is also on display at the exhibition, which is open until Saturday.
