JBL contract 'topped off '

(New Zealand Press Association)

WELLINGTON, July 24. The first former JBL contract near completion in Wellington since the Aucklandbased property group collapsed in May was “topped off” today.

The four-storey, 70,000 sq. ft office and computer block for Armstrong and Springhall, Ltd, is to be completed by Christmas. It has continued on schedule in spite of the threat of abandonment when the JBL group crashed three months ago. The project was ond of two which were resurrected when a new company, Curran Construction, took over many former JBL-Sargent Construction employees. Mr A. A. Curran, who formed the new company with other former JBL staff members, was JBL-Sargent’s construction manager.

"Nobody was out of work, and the two contracts we took over—Armstrong and Springhall’s building in Dixon Street and the wiggins building in Newtown—went ahead without interruption,” said Mr Curran today.

i “The owners won’t lose anything, and they will still have the same completion dates. JBL-Sargent had a good reputation in Wellington, and were paying their way. We built this up, and have had the support of traders and sub-contractors." Curran Construction employs 40 men and has seven contracts under way and two more awaiting permits.
