Browne, of Australia, won the United States premier championship class in the four-dey t ournamenl of the national chess congress The 23-* ear-old Browne, the only grand master in the tournament Involving more than 300 players, won 31000 far the victory. Browne finished the eight rounds with 7 1 pointe, ahead of the Americans, E. Formanek with 7.1, and R. Bostrom. In the booster class, B. McLaren, aged 22, Of British Columbia, won top honours, followed by P. Clarke, aged 16, and A. Braun, aged 30, both of the United Btates.
