New swimming selector

A Christchurch man, Mr J. H. Johnson, was elected as a national swimming selector at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association at the week-end.

Mr Johnson takes the place of Mr A. J. Donaldson on the panel, who retired after 17 years. Messrs R. Shakespeare and R. M. Webb retained their places as selectors. At a special meeUng of the associaUon’s council, Mr M. R. Duckmanton was re-elected chairman and Mr G. S. Brockett deputy-chairman. Mr Brockett was re-elected by the annual meeting for his second term as president of the association.

Other officers elected wore:— Patron, Sir Arthur Porritt: vicepresidents, Messrs I. Russell (Taranaki) and I. N. Chadwick (Otago); treasurer, Mr J. O. Turpin; representatives on the New Zealand Olympic and British Commonwealth Games Association, Messrs T. Verhoeven (Wellington), executive member, Duckmanton and Shakespeare.

Oolf.—B. Jaeckel (United States) won the French Open §olf championship after a suden death play-off against Britain’s C. Clark.
