House badly damaged

Fire severely damaged a house at 32 Kowhai Terrace, St Martins, about 4 p.m. yesterday.

The house is occupied by Mr T. Kinoshita. About 80 per cent of the interior was destroyed by the blaze, which began in the kitchen. the blaze, which began in the kitchen. When the fire broke out Mrs Kinoshita, who was in the house, gathered her two infant children and ran next door to raise the alarm.

Engines from Woolston and Sydenham attended and firemen had to use breathing apparatus to get at the seat of the blaze. Two jets were used to bring the fire under control within 20 minutes.
