‘MICHAEL X’ ON TRIAL
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) PORT OF SPAIN (Trinidad), July 21. The former London Black Power leader, Mr Abdul Malik, known as “Michael X,” has pleaded not guilty during the trial of himself and two others on a charge of murdering a barber, Joseph Skerritt. Malik entered his plea after the judge hearing the case rejected defence submissions that committal proceedings earlier had been irregular. The others who appeared with him, Stanley Abbot and Samuel Augustus Brown, pleaded not guilty when the trial began on Monday. Mr Skerritt’s body was found near Malik’s burnt house at Christina Gardens, near Port of Spain, five months ago. Two days later, the decomposed body of a woman, identified as Mrs Gale Ann Benson, aged 27, a divorcee, of Britain, was found in another shallow grave nearby.
