Ghana plot alleged

(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter —Copyright) ACCRA, July 21. The Ghana Government has announced that it has foiled a plot to restore the deposed Prime Minister, Dr Kofi Busia, to power. Dr Busia is said to have been behind a plot, by disgruntled businessmen and officials of the disbanded Progress Party, to subvert the National Redemption Council.

A council statement says that Dr Busia had planned to return to Ghana from Britain yesterday if the plotters had succeeded in overthrowing the Government on Friday. Dr Busia was overthrown by an Army coup d’etat last January, while he was in Britain for medical treatment; he had been in power since October, 1969. “All those connected with the plot have been rounded up, and will be brought to trial,” the council said in its statement.
