Security for village

As the Commonwealth Games competitors’ village must be surrounded — for security reasons — by a sixfoot fence or its equivalent, the Waimairi County Council, at its meeting this week agreed to a compromise that will meet requirements. The council decided that Ham Road from Montana Avenue to the north side of the Ham School entrance would be closed for 24 days before, and during, the Games. The closure will be effected by barricades, containing gates, manned 24 hours a day, and angled so that the entranceways to properties will not be cut off. Detour notices will be put up to redirect road users.
