MEANS TEST REMOVED
War veterans’ supplement (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 18. The income test had been removed from the age supplement payable at age 65 for former servicemen receiving a war veteran’s allowance, from July 5, said the Minister in Charge of War Pensions (Mr McCready). “In the past, ex-service-men and their wives on war veterans’ allowance could receive a supplement of up to $7B a year each on attaining the age of 65 if their income from other sources was within certain limits,” he said. “The Government’s decision will enable the supplement to be paid as an automatic addition at age 65, irrespective of the income from other sources.”
Those who qualify for the supplement or an increased supplement will receive payment of the increase on August 24, in conjunction with the increases in war veterans’ allowances announced in the Budget. A number of former servicemen receiving war economic pensions might find it to their financial advantage to transfer to a war veteran’s allowance in order to take advantage of the additional age supplement,” Mr McCready added.
