Paying for 1968

The debt-ridden Democratic Party had raised almost SUS2 million in telephone pledges this morning in a unique effort aimed at repaying some of the SUS9.B million still owed from the 1968 Presidential campaign. The telethon was held to "get the party out of hock and to save the two-party system,” said Shirley Maclaine, one of the dozens of stars who appeared on the 18 hour telethon. The Democrats had hoped to raise SUS2 million.
