The road toll
Sir,—For years I have listened to and read and argued about many important issues which concern our young people, but is it not time we ail made an effort to prevent murder on our roads? The death rate of innocent people is shocking and our hosoitals are caring nobly for thousands of injured people. Would it be possible for our professional protesters to concentrate for one year on heloing in a practical manner, such as distributing posters with a photograph of a mother weeping at the graveside of her child who has'
been killed by a drunken driver, or helping traffic officers by taking the registered numbers of cars which each day break the law by speeding and driving dangerously? New Zealand could show the world how to save lives as well as millions of dollars if every driver on our roads were to obey the traffic rules. —Yours, etc., MOTHER OF FOUR. July 3, 1972.
