Dr Castro

Sir, —While my opposition to the selling of New Zealand to foreigners is not less than that of M.C.H., he oversimplifies when he blames conditions in Latin America solely on “the export of United States capital to those regions.” Recently a New Zealand paper published a photo of a Brazilian husband and wife, “Mr and Mrs Carnauba” with their “38 living children.” Reference is made to the “proud” mother, and as long as such attitudes persist in South America, “expropriating all United States assets” will solve little. As for Fidel Castro, his fight against oppression was one of the romances of the twentieth century, and it is a pity that American intolerance and folly forced him to adopt an unsound ideology and finally made him dependent upon the world’s leading practitioners of tyranny, the present Russian rulers.— Yours, etc., MARK D. SADLER. July 2, 1972.
