College for police

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, Juliy 2.

The new Police College, north of Porirua, is expected to be completed by the end of 1977, the Minister of Police (Mr Allen) said in Parliament.

Dr A. M. Finlay (Lab., Henderson) had asked when the position of the present training school at Trentham would become “quite untenable” as forecast in the Police Department’s annual report this year. Mr Allen replied that most of the buildings at the present college were of First World War vintage, and their future life was naturally limited. But careful attention to maintenance would ensure that they could serve the police until the new college was completed. Earthworks at the new site would start this year, he said.
