Skelton near 1500 wins

"Th« Press” Special Service WELLINGTON. W. D. Skelton needs just one more winning ride to lift his total of successes to 1500. It is a figure not yet achieved by any New Zealand rider. Skelton will be riding at Woodville today and his rides include Dawn Cloud, Mr Ebee, Frederik, Renoir, Jodie and Follow Ua. Skelton had been stranded in the 1490 s for some time, but after winning on Patrida at Hastings last week, he won two races at Avondale, including the SlO,OOO Anzac Day Handicap on Dvak. to be on the verge of 1500. With rides at Hastings, Blenheim, Nelson and Avondale in the last fortnight, Skelton would have reached the extra one if luck had been with him. Apart from his three wins, he has recorded a total of 10 seconds.

His best season came in 196768 with the record 124 wins. He has been top jockey six times and runner-up seven.
