DEFENSIVE DRIVING
More companies in New Zealand are putting their staffs through courses organised by local branches of the New Zealand Defensive Driving Council, the president (Mr A. J. Smaill, of Christchurch) told the annual conference last evening. Mr Smaill said there had also been an upsurge in the number of service clubs— Lions, Rotary and Jaycee—with road-safety organisations, conducting defensive driving courses. In addition, the New Zealand Red Cross Society had arranged courses for its members.
Three insurance companies and two automobile manufacturing companies had contributed $10,500, Mr Smaill said.
During the year to March 31, 1972, 10,047 had graduated from defensive driving courses, paid for largely by (this money.
