Kleindienst approved
IMXP A.-Reuter—Copyright) . WASHINGTON, April 28. The Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday approved President Nixon’s nomination of Mr Richard Kleindienst as the United States AttorneyGeneral, after eight weeks of hearings.
The vote was 11-4 —over-! riding liberal Democrats on the committee it contrasted with the unanimous approval the committee gave to Mr Kleindienst in February, before allegations were made of scandal involving the' White House and the Justice : Department, where Mr Kleindienst supervised the antitjpst division. It was Mr Kleindienst himself who had asked for committee hearings to be reopened, after the Washington columnist. Jack Anderson. had disclosed the existence of a memorandum
apparently linking out-of-court settlement of anti-trust! cases against the Inter-| national Telephone and Telegraph Corporation (1.T.T.), with the firm’s offer of finan-. dial support for the Republican national convention. The nomination now goes before the full Senate for approval, with the prospect of another tussle on the Senate floor.
