High award to conductor

The rare honour of a Fellowship of Trinity College of Music, London, in choral conducting, has been awarded to Mr G. E. Jansen, senior lecturer in music education, secondary division of the Christchurch Teachers’ College: The fellowship is the highest qualification awarded by the college, and the preparation for his F.T.C.L. involved Mr Jansen in training and conducting a choir, orchestrating a choral piece, and writing a small thesis—for which he chose the subject "The training of an adolescent Choir.” Mr Jansen has a master of arts degree in the history and literature of music from Victoria University of Wellington. He is choirmaster of the Madrigal Singers, and relieving choirmaster at the Oxford Terrace Baptist Church. He was also at one time ! the conductor of the Palmerston North Choral Society, ■ with which he performed a number of major works.
