FUTURE OF ‘VIETNAMS’

Negro author gives warning (NZ.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, April 14. The American author James Baldwin, in London for the publication of his latest book has given warning that the Western world might be facing a whole new series of “Vietnams.” The Negro writer, whose new book is about the race problem in the United States, said: "I have tried to use the colour problem to indicate symptoms of something much greater that is happening in the world. “It is something to do with the fact that the whole structure on which the world is based is collapsing.

“For instance, tomorrow South Africa or Rhodesia may be Britain’s Vietnam. The future Could stretch ahead of the Western world like a series of Vietnams.”
